Bari

"Se Parigi avesse il mare, sarebbe una piccola Bari" (If Paris had the sea, it would be a little Bari). This popular saying tells you more about the local sense of humor than it does about the city, but Bari is a cherming town, particularly Barivecchia, its medieval old town. Bari is the capital city of Apulia region (in Italian, Puglia), on the Adriatic Sea. It is the second most important economic centre in Southern Italy after Naples, and is well known as a port and university city. People from Bari (Baresi) are very devoted to Saint Nicolas and they celebrate the festivity of saint Nicolas every year in May during 3 long days. Bari is known throughout Italy for its spoken dialect, particularly in the Old Town, parts of which originated from a mixture between Italian and Greek language spoken by fishermen in the past. People in Bari are friendly and curious..don’t feel embarrassed if they stare at you steadily when you walk in the street..if you are a women, it is because they admire your beauty..(and most probably they will also make a verbal comment)..if you are a man it is because they like your outfit or your hair style..you know, Italians! ;) Another important thing: be careful when you cross the street of Bari..there is no respect of the road rules..a red light isn’t a must stop but only a warning!! Strolling around in Bari

If you have some free time in time, here is a list of things you see/visit there:
  • Basilica di San Nicola
  • Catedrale
  • Teatro petruzzelli
  • Castello Svevo
  • Barivecchia
Barivecchia, or Old Bari, is a sprawl of streets and passageways making up the section of the city to the north of the modern Murat area. Barivecchia was until fairly recently considered a no-go-area by many of Bari's residents due to the high levels of petty crime, but nowadays it is considered the centre of the social life of the city. A development plan followed by the development of the two main squares, Piazza Mercantile and Piazza Ferrarese, has seen the opening of many pubs and other venues. Check out the designer shops along Via Sparano da Bari. Here you will shop well alongside a demanding local clientele.
